Weed’s Black Butte Saloon to reopen

Sandra Vaughan and Rob Johnston are the new owners of the Black Butte Saloon and are excited about reopening the doors to the Weed establishment on Friday, Oct. 9. They hope to appeal to a wide cross-section of the community, with “Cowboy Thursdays” and “Hip Hop Fridays”. They also expressed their desire to take advantage of the establishment’s size and become a live music venue.

A longtime Weed establishment, the Black Butte Saloon, will soon be reopening with new owners Sandra Vaughan and Rob Johnston at the helm.
The bar, which has sat empty for several years, will join the Cedar Lanes Sports Bar and Papa’s Place as the third drinking establishment on Main Street.
With their sights set on an Oct. 9 opening date, the Dunsmuir couple is hard at work wrapping up their renovations.
Carpenter Feddy Kiss has completed installation of a marble topped bar that extends the length of the orignal wooden bar, claimed to be over 100 years old. As Kiss was finishing his job, a new compressor was being installed in the beer keg-o-rator.
“The Black Butte is kind of the heartbeat of Weed,” said Vaughan, expressing her excitement over the prospect of opening in a few weeks.
The two explained that they had been looking throughout Siskiyou County for a place to open a bar. They said that after their first visit to the Black Butte, the search ended abruptly.
“Weed has been the nicest town to work with,” said Johnston.
They said that as they have been working to get ready for opening, many people have stopped by to say hello and express their support. “It is amazing how many people have stories about this place,” said Vaughan. “A lot of people know about this place, not just the locals,” she continued.

Community-based
“We really want to be a community-based bar,” said Vaughan, explaining that they hope to provide something for everyone. “We’re doing Cowboy Thursdays and Hip Hop Fridays,” explained Johnston. “Saturday will be live music.”
Johnston noted that they are a full service bar. They hope to explore the option of a full menu, but will stick to basic bar munchies such as hot dogs in the beginning.
They said they envision utilizing their space for other community functions. With a dance floor, small stage and full bar space and game room, there is plenty of room to accommodate crowds, said Vaughan. “This will be the biggest venue of its kind in the county,” she said.
Though the two are new to the bar business, they have spent the last two years researching the venture and bring a wealth of other business experiences with them, with Johnston having worked in real estate for many years and Vaughan with a background in film production and writing.
Both have embarked on several real estate ventures since first moving to the area in 1996.

‘Good karma’ bar
One service the couple plans on providing is a ‘safety shuttle’ service.
“With the younger crowd, we want to be safe,” said Vaughan, explaining that they will be providing a free shuttle service to points in Weed, Mt. Shasta and Lake Shastina for those patrons who need a safe ride home.
“We want to be the ‘good karma’ bar,” furthered Johnston.
Other possibilities for the establishment include an open mic Sunday (Johnston said they are considering calling them “Bloody Mary Jam Sessions”). “We want to provide something for everyone,” said Vaughan.
On Friday, Oct 9 DJ Rigatony is scheduled to entertain and on Saturday Oct. 10, the band Nothing Personal, who regularly opens for Sammy Hagar, will be performing. There is no cover charge.
The Black Butte Saloon is located on Main Street in Weed.

Who is crazier, the accused fat-chick Regina for taking the job or ones trying to lynch the poor thing...I've seen plenty of crazy before, but my god. Who are you peps out there spouting from the roof tops that she's not qualified cause she's fat....

Have I just landed in a bad B-Movie with sub-titles? Move on with your lives, she's a pretty smart chick no matter what... And what she does with her body is not anyones business, where are your manors people? She a big girl (no pun intended) that can take care of herself, and believe me, you're not saving her, cause she doesn't need saving.

I love that with all these opinions comes some personal justification in the old land of "know it all." Stop knowing her and get real with yourself. She isn't your problem, you are the problem. Just eat the damn piece of cake already and move on for Gods sakes....She certainly has, you silly rabbits.

What is all this needy save the fat-chick energy all about anyway? I'd be asking the harder question, why am I so threatened? Reason, cause deep down you must be a fat-chick too...

Okay the Fat Craze is still on going... But now the New York Times is also on board with these boring Fat tales... I just wonder when this won't be such an explosive topic...I know for me personally Monster in her Mirror was the rebuttal I needed to express...The truth is when you are in the Fat Maze, it's hard to find your way out...call it what you want. addiction, lazy, or too hard...

But there is a mental aspect that we have all been dealing with since we were 13; the confusion, the contradiction, the competition, and or all the comparison bites us in the ass. And that's where the story usually begins... and for those that found their way out of the Fat Maze congrats, and for those of us still stuck, god bless we're doing the best we can to find our way out too...

But for god sakes quit talking to us like we're idiots. That for me is the worst part of the fat guru's stepping up on the platforms and down on the plateaus...

Jon and Kate, it's too late...

Is it just me? But I never watched J&K plus 8 for Kate-in fact I liked Jon better, but that's not the point, it was the kids that had me hooked. That's what mattered, the kids made the show. They were so cute and there was so many of them, like little puppies all over the place. But it's not cute anymore. I don't know when exactly it became about Jon and Kate, but I think it was around the time of her tummy tuck and his hair implants. Some how they (Kate and Jon) decided to become Stars. And that's when ego took them to the far, far away land of the egocentric and self proclaimed perfect people planet. Shame on them...

Believe me, I get it. I get how it all came down and how things spun in the big bad world of reality / Hollywood sell outs... But really, is it really reality not to jump out of the burning building or at least run back in and save the children...not good. I can't look... Jon looks burnt, Kate looks fake, laughing at all the bugs, and the kids look like little cash cows with bells and bows...

So done with these self effacing women with extraordinarily privileged lives deciding they are my fat guru's-give me a break...Don't!!! Don't splash all over the tube bragging when you lose it, making us feel not good-enough, and then gaining it all back again and begging for our forgiveness. Does anyone see the absurdity...So very Monster in Her Mirror of them... and so full of the Trickster they both need to chill out and look in the mirror and forgive themselves. It's not about us. Now Alley wants us to follow her diet plan, and O spends a whole week teaching us what she herself hasn't learned, excuse me, I'm choking on my M&M's!

Come on gals how stupid and superficial do they think we are? Truly they should get on with their lives and keep us out of it. I'm so tired of the whole fatties-gone skinny-gone fatty, trying to save us, hell save yourself. Truth is fat/skinny is a very layered personal trip that may or may not get worked out. But no matter what, it will be on the individuals time-line. All I'm saying is let's learn to live our lives first before turning our power over to a Trickster filled, full of herself guru again...

Girls, I've lived it and so have you. We don't need to buy what anyone else is selling, especailly when it's all ego...Ego got us here in the first place and the last thing we need is more of the same nonsense. I say, sing me a new song sweet heart-I've heard this one before, over and over again...

Truth is, one should ever get that high on themselves, gaining or losing-what goes up must come down. And with all my ups and downs, I've learned one thing, freedom is all about living now and loving the you, that you are.

"The problem was, the more I searched the more I was lost. I sat down and decided to tell the truth, the whole uncomfortable truth of me and my private whacky world filled with contradictions that swirled around me while I set out to resolve the fat-chick madness. With all the supplemental solutions out there like new diets, bigger boobs, plumby lips, and those nose jobs, those solutions never seemed to address that real question. Why do we need to change so badly? It was always the cart before the horse. Deep down inside I knew that dieting, comparing, and competing were all Band Aides, not solutions for the deeper more sinister mindset. Trickster, lurking in the shadows, was always right there seducing me further down the rabbit hole of self-loathing."

Finally, it's done.

He finished the dreaded office remodel.

Of course that's not entirely true. He still has the bathroom mirror, kitchen cab. door knobs, and light switch plates to go. So, I'm thinking by summer, but you're not gonna hear a word of bitching from me...oh no.

He's out of my office and things are back to lovely! Heck, I might even start sleeping with him again. ( ha-ha)

Bad Boy Tricks

In my house Rob, my guy, can't help but go man once in awhile and try to squish me. Like women that can't help accidentally giving their power away, guys just love squishing us. Now Rob is not the enemy, but being the guy that he is, the man-thing shows up.

For instance, we're in the middle of a remodel. Fine, a month long project has turned into 3 months and of course I can't say a word. Why, because he'll stall even further on the progress. Hence, I have no voice in my own house and I have to be a good little girl, or else.. Well we all know what that means, he'll quit. Now I'd love to throw some money or more monkeys at the project, hell anything at this point to get the job done. I want my office, peace, and my life back.

But noooooo-not Rob for some man-thing reason he enjoys seeing me squirm in discomfort. He likes taking over my office space, using my computer, and generally abusing my patients. And that's where the squishing part comes in. Guys can't help but squish the women they love, it must be in their jeans!

I curse the day I said yes to this remodel, falling for his man-trip and squishing me in my own home. "Just finish your office and get out of mine," is what I scream into the pillow, while I pound my fist crying!

When I started my quest for freedom there was a lot a grey matter in my way. Grey matter is the voice, or rather the conditioned thoughts, of not digging me. Now for anyone who can relate to the scary bathroom mirror moments, it's time to take a time-out. A big time out! You can read all the diet books in the world, exercise till the cows come home but if you're still suffering from Mad Cow-or Pissed-off Cow syndrome, forget about it! Let's face it, until you can see the Beautiful You...don't even bother trying to shove the round peg in the square hole. It doesn't fit. We have to stop being so darn mean to ourselves and sober up. Truth is: we're all so beautiful but sometimes we're just too far away from true-self to see it.

Just started posting my work. Sorry it's been so long since Two Thousand Minnows. I've been working on the screenplay for Two Thousand Minnows and a couple of other screenplays.

But for all you thirsty readers I'm just about finished with my next book," Escaping the Mental Fat Trap". It's another memoir and one that I loved writing. It's the other side of being a chix, the mental trap of subconsciously loathing ourselves. I wanted to write a piece that really captured the essence of ego's voice chipping away at my freedom and my love for self. I hope you not only enjoy this one, but can find your own sense of peace and well being...

And again, thank you all for sharing your comments and supporting Two Thousand Minnows over the years.
